This week for Melanin Mom Mondays, BrownMomRising is Featuring Mrs. Amanda Abernathy! I thank Amanda, for taking the time to answer my questions and share her story. Please continue to read on to learn more about this Rockin’ Mom!
Amanda Abernathy is a 32 native New Jerseyan, who has a work-life balance of being a full-time Financial Aid Coordinator, budding business in Personal Finance as well as being a mom to an energetic 8-month old baby girl.
Amanda is married to her husband Michael of 5 years, who also works the Personal Finance business as a partnership. They live in Georgia with their daughter Mikayla Bree.
Working as a Student Financial Aid professional for many years but entrepreneurship has always been my goal. In 2014 I got the opportunity to work on entrepreneurship. I was approached by an old coworker about an opportunity to make some additional income. At this time, I just graduated college, my husband and I just brought a house so extra income was definitely needed. I attended an informational and sat down with my coworker and her husband and they showed us the concepts of personal finance that many never get an education in. I was SOLD, I obtained a professional license, financial education and certifications, in return educated individuals and family on finance concepts that we aren’t taught in school and help them set up financial plans. Financial plans include income protection, investments, savings, children college funds and different insurance plans.
We welcomed our Mikayla Bree December of 2016. I am a sufferer of PCOS and it was told to me and my husband getting pregnant would be very hard. We tried for children a little over a year my problem the PCOS wouldn’t allow me to ovulate and would have to take medicine to help with ovulation. But in January, February and March of 2016, I started to ovulate no medicine and got pregnant in March of 2016. The joy of having a child was such a blessing and we are truly thankful. Motherhood is such a beautiful journey to experience and has pushed me more to work harder in business to provide and show my daughter so much more of life.
Brownmomrising: How many kids do you have?
Amanda: Currently, I only have my one princess. In the future we may plan for more.
Brownmomrising: what advice do you have for a new mother?
Amanda: Motherhood can be overwhelming and one of the hardest jobs you can have but it a true joy. I really struggled with breastfeeding but I knew the end goal was to give my daughter the best I could. Push through any obstacles and tough times as they always come to an end. Spend as much time with you baby as infants (which is the 1st year), enjoy every minute of it.
How to get in Contact with the lovely Amanda:
Brownmomrising: Lastly, what do you like about being a mom?
Amanda: I truly have a mini me, my daughter is me reincarnated. Nothing excites me more than spending time with my daughter. Watching her meet her milestones, her personality and laughs. Being a mom was something I always hoped and prayed for and God chose me to be her parent to bring her up, provide and protect her and I don’t take that lightly.
